Well that's another week over. We have been working extremely hard on our Fireside Nativity this week. Please continue to learn your lines and practise the songs at home!

The snow stopped us in our tracks on Thursday, but we have had a fantastic week nonetheless!

This week, we joined Talland to finish decorating the Lanterns for the procession in Polperro on Saturday. We created some lovely Christmas themed shapes.

In English, we have started a new poetry unit, considering how poetry makes us feel and what it means to us.

In Maths, Year 2 have concluded their addition and subtraction unit by focussing on answering missing number questions and using tens frames and part-whole models to support our understanding. Year 3 have continued to use the column method and practising borrowing from tens and hundreds when subtracting. Next week, Year 3 will finish their Addition and Subtraction unit.

In Art, we have continued exploring our enquiry question 'What was new about the Stone Age?' by creating a background wash of colour, ready for our final cave art hunting scenes next week. We will be using charcoal and pastels to replicate the texture and pigments used by Stone Age Artists.

Congratulations to Oliver and Lily for being Landaviddy's People of the Week!

We hope you have an excellent weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Miss Gibbings, Mrs Phillips and Mr H

Let it Snow

After an the unexpected snow on Thursday we enjoyed a Christmas MUFTI day today. It has been a fun end to the week and thank you for sending in so many gifts for the FOPS Christmas Gift Shop on next Thursday.

Reading for Pleasure We had a Library Van visit today. Well done to Phoebe, Max S, Everly W, Dexter and April who between them chose a wide range of books for all ages for our school library and for nursery.

Lantern Procession Tomorrow The children have made some beautiful lanterns between them for the procession tomorrow. The children should congregate at what was ‘Coffee, Cake, Create’ at 4.30pm ready to leave promptly at 4.45pm. We look forward to seeing you there. If your child carries a lantern, please ensure that they bring the cane back to school on Monday so that it can be reused next year.

Clubs Next week clubs will run as usual. For the final 2 weeks of term (11 Dec – 19 Dec) there will be no clubs except for afterschool wraparound club and Breakfast Club which will continue as usual. Clubs will restart in January and we will send a letter out about which ones will be running.

Is my child too ill for school? We know that winter is one of the peak times for children to come down with mild illnesses such as colds, coughs and sore throats. It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell. There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't. If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone the school or nursery on the first day. Let us know that your child won't be in and give us the reason. If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let us know. See this link for mild illness guidance - https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-forschool/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery

Have a lovely weekend.

Talland's Class Blog 1.12.23

Snow is falling,
All around us,
School was clo-osed,
On Thursday...

We hope you all had a fun-filled, snowman infested snow day!

A very busy week for Talland - we helped Landaviddy decorate lanterns, we have been practicing our co-ordination skills in PE and we have gone 'Bethlehem Bandit' crazy by rehearsing ALOT... The children are really getting into it now! Not long until show day!

In Maths, Year 5's have been comparing and ordering fractions and the Year 4's have been using the 3-, 6- and 9- times tables to help them solve mathematical problems.

In English, we have been learning to use dialogue to show action, emotion, character traits and move time on in a story. We know that by using dialogue can help a reader understand more about a character and it can make a story more interesting.

A huge well done to Henry this week for being chosen as our 'visible learner' of the week by firstly, posing very nicely for pictures, and secondly for being an amazing learning partner! His learning behaviour's in class have been fabulous and he has worked extremely hard on tasks set. He has demonstrated some excellent writing in English this week and it's been lovely watching his joy whilst sharing it with others.

We hope you have an amazing weekend - remember to wrap up warm!

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Hodge.

Hello parents and pupils of Chaipel! Another week has flown and BETHLEHEM BANDITS is now in full swing! I have warned the children that there is a 'no script' policy from Monday onwards so please encourage one final push to polish those lines!! Costumes and props need to be in by Wednesday/Thursday please so that we can have a full dress rehearsal on Friday, ready for our performances the following week.

The lanterns for Saturday's Light Switch On are now complete and been taken ready for the big night. Please be down outside Coffee, Cake, Create by 4:30 to pick up a lantern and get ready for the procession.

Chaipel have been continuing to learn about the Earth and Moon relative to the Sun this week and have been investigating the phases of the Moon. Take a look out of your window tonight - you should see a Waning Gibbous Moon. Ask your child what that means and what the next phase will be - very fascinating!!

English has been our great Space Log write up and we have some incredible entries from Chaipel, packed full of metaphors, personification, onomatopoeia, precise vocabulary and much, much more. I'm looking forward to reading the completed version of each and every one of them. In Maths, we have been comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting fractions with the Y5s converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. PHEW!

CONGRATULATIONS to Martha, Ivy and Bayley for being recognised as our Chaipel People of the Week for their amazing kindness, determination and resilience towards life at Polperro Academy.

Have a lovely weekend everybody and we hope to see you down at the Polperro Light Switch On on Saturday!

What a week it has been with finishing our enquiry question about our favourite stories and then a snow day thrown into the mix on Thursday.
This week we were exploring the story of the "Gingerbread man" and the children had a fun time making their own gingerbread people in cooking. They practiced mixing, stirring and rolling before making their shapes and putting them in the oven to bake (they didn't jump out and run away!)
The children enjoyed the feel of paint on their feet when we made footprint gingerbread people and decorated a gingerbread man on the tuft tray using and exploring different materials.
We have enjoyed reading the story of the "Gingerbread man" in addition to alternative versions such as the "Ninjabread man" which is always a nursery favourite.
We are now nearing Christmas and look forward to everything that it brings and we are excited to start some christmas craft and activities from next week.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.

We LOVE to Read!

We have loved reading at every opportunity this week. We made the most of the drier days and ventured up to the garden to read and collect sticks for some projects in the classroom! The children also really enjoyed our relaxed reading in the classroom today.

In RE we considered who is the most important figure in the Christmas Story, learning more about all of our roles in the Nativity. We particularly enjoyed learning more about the three gifts that the Baby Jesus was given.

In PE this week, we learned more about ball skills, adding catching with two hands to our skillset. We progressed in Gymnastics by learning the skills required to jump and hop effectively!

We have been learning more songs for the Nativity and apologies for the delay, you will have confirmed parts on Monday, it has been SO hard to choose and it came down to picking names out of a hat! Our Nativity is on Wednesday the 13th of December, 11am and 2pm. We can't wait.... we are so excited!

In English, the children are learning the stickman story. We have made our own Stick Man with rules to enjoy the story together, we are writing a description of the Stick Man and we look forward to predicting our own part of the story to write next week.

In maths, we continue on our numerical journey with Reception learning the composition of numbers up to 5 and Year 1s learning all about fact families and what makes a number bond.

We said a sad goodbye to Mrs Pollard last week and today we said farewell and good luck to Mrs Robinson for her new adventure, we will miss them both and wish them well in their new roles.

Well done to our 'People of the Week' Iylah, Kai and Martha, each showing super qualities in and out of the classroom. Tommy and Max were chosen as Penhallow's 'Mathematician of the Week' this week. Tommy has superb listening skills and is always bursting to answer the questions and challenge himself. Max impresses us with his enthusiasm in maths every day.

We hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend!

Stone Age Hunters

We have continued practising our Fireside Nativity and loved practising our songs with Mrs Butlin this week. Well done to those who are continuing to learn their lines at home. A letter has been sent home today about costumes, so please do let me know if you have any questions.

In Maths this week, we have continued to work hard on our Addition and Subtraction unit. We are nearly at the end of this now, and it has been wonderful to see the progress made by all the children. Year 3 have continued using the column method and practised borrowing from 10s and 100s when subtracting. Year 2 have been consolidating their knowledge and continuing to use concrete objects and pictorials to support their understanding.

In English, we have finished writing our stories inspired by 'Stone Age Boy'. I have been impressed with the class' stamina for writing. As a result, we have had some lovely ideas come to life. I have loved reading every one of your stories!

The highlight of our week was definitely making our own Stone Age spears. We used soap to mimic the flint stone and knapped away flakes to create the perfect spearhead. We then chose our own sticks and used blu tack and string as a 'Stone Age' glue. Everyone loved the whole process and we truly felt like we were living in the Stone Age!

Congratulations to Benjamin and Isabelle for being the Landaviddy Mathematician's of the Week! And a big well done to Grace for being our Person of the Week!

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Talland's Blog 24.11.23

An action packed week in Talland! We've been looking at exercises to develop our strength, stamina, balance and agility, which are all aspects that we have come to realise are important in helping us with everyday life. We know that the healthier we are, the easier every day tasks become (we feel better mentally, it improves our brain health and it enhances our ability to do everyday activities).

We had a great day today - we began the first stage of creating the lanterns for the Polperro festival. Talland and Chaipel teamed up. We were very successful and they're looking fantastic so far. We're looking forward to working with other classes next week to decorate them!

Bethlehem Bandits is in full flight. A huge well done to all of the children who have been practicing their lines and are beginning to remember them off-by-heart. It's lovely watching some budding actors and actresses in the making! I have attached two songs (lyrics) for the children to practice if they get a spare moment. We have sent children home with costume ideas for the big performance (please do not panic if you don't have the items to hand - we will be more than happy to arrange something or give suggestions which are free).

A huge well done to Hamish and Tabbi for being nominated as our mathematicians of the week and well done to Thomas for being chosen as pupil of the week! A massive well done to everyone in the class also for being absolute superstars!

We hope you have a brilliant weekend!

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Hodge.

Cross Country and Dodgeball successes Well done again to our intrepid cross-country running team who did the school proud, running a difficult course at Lanhydrock last Friday. Well done also to our year 5/6 Dodgeball team (Leon, Max B, Freddie, Harrison, Harley and Ivy) who competed in the Bridge Schools Dodgeball Tournament at Callywith College yesterday. They won their group stage, winning 4 out of 5 games, before being knocked out in the knock out stages. They showed amazing team spirit, cheering each other on and the other teams once they were out.

Another week closer to the Christmas play and rehearsals are in full swing! Mrs Butlin has been helping us to learn our songs for the big day and we've all taken home copies of some of the songs to learn over the weekend. Miss Randle has attached copies to the blog below.

This week, in class, we have started writing up the best copy of our Log entries in English, been learning all about fractions in Maths (Y5 and Y6): equivalent fractions, proper and improper, plotting them on a number line and ordering and comparing by both numerator and denominator. In French, we've been learning words and phrases to be able to talk about our family and our Enquiry has taken us into different world time zones; linking these to our planet's revolution and rotation in relation to the Sun. - ROSIE GRACE

On Thursday, a group of children went to Callywith College to take part in a Dodgeball competition. They did amazingly well and made it to the quarter finals!

We have begun to make our lanterns for the Polperro Christmas Lights Switch On (Saturday, December 2nd).Talland and Chaipel have worked together to make the frames and the rest of the school will decorate them next week.- DAISY

CONGRATULATIONS to Rosie Grace for achieving your Silver in 99 club and well done to Jack G and Phoebe for getting Mathematician of the Week for your fabulous fraction work. Finally, Chaipel's people of the week are... Jack G and Noah for being super kind and caring to others.

We said 'Goodbye' to Mrs Robinson this week and decorated our section of the school card using our favourite book covers as she was a fab school librarian! We wish her well for the future.                  JACK C

That's all from us!
Have a super weekend and see you all next week!!

Hello, everyone,
This week in nursery, we have continued to look at and discuss favourite stories. We have been enjoying the story of "The three little pigs" this week.
The children have used props in the tuft tray to enable them to act out the story and they have tried to construct houses for the pigs using straw, bricks and sticks.
They have enjoyed craft and painting where they have made pigs and wolves out of paper plates and tubes.
We have been practicing counting and number recognition in maths where the children have been counting different amounts of objects they see from the story.
At storytime, as well as the more well known version of the story, the children have enjoyed some alternative ones such as "The three little pigs and the new neighbour" and "Superpigs".
We are looking forward to exploring a new story next week :)

Have a great weekend

Thank you for sending your children in for a cosy day today in PJs or spots or bright colours. We raised over £100 for Children in Need and held a lovely Children in Need and Celebration assembly together to round off anti-bullying week.

For anti-bullying week we have had discussions in assembly and in class about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. Chaipel Class have written an antibullying poem which they shared in assembly. See below.

Staffing We said a fond farewell on Tuesday to Chrissy Pollard who has worked with our youngest children in our Nursery and Penhallow Class. She is leaving to take up an opportunity closer to home. I am sure you will join us in wishing her the very best for the future.

Book Fair Well done to our Book Fair character design competition winners Evie, Lucy, Sienna and Martha and thank you for supporting our book fair so generously. We are looking forward to having extra money to spend on books as a result.

Fundraising for Charities and School We recognise that with the cost of living crisis it is currently a challenging time for many families and we are aware that we are asking for several different donations this half term. Please only donate where you are able.

And just like that, another week has come to an end!

In recognition of Anti-Bullying Week, it was wonderful to see everyone wear their odd socks on Monday. In Landaviddy, we designed our own odd socks with Mrs Phillips, demonstrating how we are all unique in our own way. On Wednesday, we collaborated to write a class poem based on the theme 'Make a Noise' about bullying. Everyone came up with a sentence to contribute. Check it out below! This week has led great discussion around how we should treat others and what we can do when we notice bullying.
Thank you to all for coming in Mufti today in celebration of Children in Need. Everyone looked fabulous in their Pudsey ears!

As part of our enquiry this week, we have been exploring a range of Stone Age artefacts in History. We have also been considering why archaeologists are important and the role they play in helping us to understand the past. In Art, we sketched the scenes we will use for our final cave art pieces next week.

In English, we have planned and written our own stories inspired by 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura. I have been amazed by the stamina for writing all the children have demonstrated this week. We've had children sucked through TV screens and stumbling through portals to get their Stone Age world. Next week, we will finish writing our stories and look at finalising our neat copies.

In Maths, Year 2 this week have been extremely focussed on using concrete objects and pictorials to support themselves when adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. Year 3 have continued using the column method to add and subtract. They have all shown great determination this week, and their presentation and layout has already improved!

Congratulations to Lucy and Isabelle for being Landaviddy's People of the Week. A Big Well Done to Harley and Everly for being recognised as our Writers of the Week!

Knowledge Web
Please find attached the Knowledge Web for Autumn Term 2 'What was new about the Stone Age?'. This details everything your child will be covering across the wider curriculum this half term.

Christmas Play
Today, the children have been given their part and script for our Christmas Play this year! Please have a read through your lines and start learning these at home. We will of course be practising in school too.

We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Penhallow 17.11.2023

It has been a very busy week in Penhallow this week with a fabulous mixture of learning adventures! We started the week in odd socks to make a noise for Anti-bullying Week and the children have loved dancing away and making lots of noise during our active breaks between our morning lessons.

Reception celebrated writing their first sentences this week, WOW, they are doing brilliantly in their phonics and excited to be starting level 3! Year 1s are also doing fantastically with their learning and more and more sounds are being added along with tricky words too. We hope you enjoy reading this week's 'Read it Together' book, there are plenty of extra resources on twinklGO! if you need some extra. We encourage you to read with your child every day to ensure they make the very best progress.

In maths, we are looking at number bonds and have been singing our own version of baby shark to remember number bonds to 10.

We finished the week with some Children in Need fun and hope that the children enjoyed their first MUFTI day of the year.

Well done to Emily and Finn for being our Writers of the Week! It was lovely to see you standing at the front of the assembly with your certificates, showing how hard you have been working. Well done!

Well done also to Hugh, Kai and Alfie for being Penhallow's People of the Week this week for showing kindness and positive behaviour both in the classroom and outside on the playground. Well done!

We have now started learning some songs from our nativity and we will let you know the  final decision of parts on Monday. Children were all able to tell me what part they would like to play and we are working hard to put the children in their preferred choice.

We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend, see you on Monday.

 Talland's Class Blog 17.11.23

I can't believe its already the 17th of November... Time is racing by here in Talland class. Christmas music is already playing on the radio so I guess the festive décor will soon make its colourful entrance to the classroom!

It's been another busy, fun-fueled week!
In maths, the year 4's have absolutely nailed area and will now be moving onto multiplication and division. The Year 5's have also shown lots of learning and progression within multiplication and division - they have just begun fabulous fractions!

In English, we've been planning our mythical hero vs beast narrative. I can't wait for next week - the children will be writing their own version! They've been working so hard trying to include adventurous vocabulary, fronted adverbials and methods to gain tension within a story. These should be great!

In PE, we have been focusing on gymnastics and skills that help get the most out of gymnast like: strength, balance, speed and stamina. The children have been put through their paces and have completed to rigorous fitness tests.

In PSHE, the children created their own assumption glasses and we have realised  that we should never judge a book by its cover. It's important to get to know a person before making a judgment. We looked at one lady, who was 74 - no one guessed that she used to be a competitive swimmer AND she jumps out of airplanes for fun (parachutes)!

A huge well done to Frankie and Freddie for being nominated as writer's of the week and a massive congratulations to Aria for being recognised for her kindness, excellent learning behaviours and fantastic work ethic!

Attached is our homework grid and knowledge web for this term. There's some fun activities to get your teeth into. It would be great to see what you have all been up to so there will be opportunities for your children to do show and tales to the class based on what they have found out and made!

We hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Hodge.

Another week has flown by in Chaipel. We started off on Monday by wearing odd socks for Anti Bullying Week and we even made our own class poem which we read out in assembly on Wednesday. It was also the Book Fair this week and we want to say a big, 'Thank You' to everyone who supported this by buying a book. A percentage of the money raised will go towards getting some fabulous new books for each of the classrooms.

We have even started writing the draft copies of our three logs in English and will be moving onto editing and improving and writing up our best copies next week. Y6 have began to investigate Fractions in Maths this week whilst Y5 have been multiplying and divding by 10/100/1,000. Aswell as all of this, our Art lessons have led us to learn how to use tone and texture to create our own versions of the planets in our Solar System. Check out our planets and nebula - pretty cool!  - ROSIE GRACE

In other new this week, we have been given our scripts for our new Chirstmas play which is called
BETHLEHEM BANDITS. The play is a comedy about a group of thieves (that are not very good at their job) and and the crazy adventures they have the night Jesus was born. Dates and times for our performances will be sent in a letter by Mrs Hillman very soon! - DAISY

Congratulations to Ivy, Daisy, Rosie G and Max B for being recognised in our Celebration Assembly for their kindness and compassion towards others this week. Martha and Phoebe have gained their Bronze badges in their 99 Club so a HUGE 'Well Done' to them - they have been working really hard to achieve this.

We ended the week with Children in Need Day and it was amazing to see everyone in spots/pyjamas and bright colours! Every pound counts so thank you for your support!

So, that's all from us. Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday!

Rosie G, Daisy, Miss Randle, Miss Gilbert and Mrs Clary.

This week we are looking at different stories that we like and why. Here at nursery we have enjoyed the story of the "Little Red Hen".
The children have enjoyed sharing the book at storytime and then using different materials in the tuft tray such as flour, oats and pasta to act out the story. We also made bread rolls, just like the little red hen!
The children took part in craft related activities such as making their own hens from lolly sticks and paper plates.
In maths, we have been practicing counting and number recognition.
We celebrated Children in Need today (Friday), the children enjoyed coming into nursery in their pyjamas or wearing spots or bright clothes. They all looked great and took part in some Pudsey colouring and making Pudsey bear masks.

Have a great weekend

Julie and Sarah

Amazing Hunter-Gatherers!

This week has been full of lots of learning!

We have continued our enquiry this week by exploring the Stone Age diet, by identifying foods they would hunt and gather. This sparked interesting discussions about the evidence archaeologists use to prove what people ate in the Stone Age. We were amazed to learn about Otzi the Iceman who was found with his last meal in his stomach! and lets not forget the mineralised poo found at Durrington Walls!

In Art, we focussed on experimenting with colour today, using watercolour paints, pastels and charcoal to determine what our final colour palette would look like when we create our own cave art.

In English, we started the week with some role play of 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura. We have also been looking at past, present and the present perfect tenses (Y3), and working hard on improving our descriptive language skills. We have written setting descriptions and created our own characters ready for our own Stone Age Boy narratives next week.

In Maths, we have continued to work hard on addition and subtraction. Year 3 have just begun to look at formal written methods when adding two numbers together and Year 2 have been using concrete objects and pictorials to add 2-digit numbers. Next week, we will continue to build up our fluency and look at how we add and subtract numbers when crossing tens boundaries.

Congratulations to Grace and Amber for being Landaviddy's People of the Week. Very well deserved for being excellent role models and showing such kind and caring attitudes to others.

Attached is this half term's Homework Grid with lots of Stone Age related activities. Why not check it out! Please continue with your usual reading, spellings and maths. Further details can be found on a previous bog post at the bottom of the class page.
