by Emily Randle

Another busy week has flown by. We have completed and edited our draft version of our Mayan narratives and are in the process of writing up or best copies: I can't wait to read them all! In Music, Mrs Butlin had Chaipel playing a range of instruments, collectively.

In our enquiry, Chaipel have been learning about the importance of Fairtrade and what impact buying a fairtrade product has to the farmers. Chaipel have also been comparing the Maya rule with Anglo-Saxon England and have been surprised to find some similarities. The Maya podcast is getting very exciting and will conclude on Tuesday, with a look at creating our own podcasts to follow...

SCHOOL TRIP
We are finally just days away from our school trip to St Ives. A letter will go home on Monday enquiring whether your child has any allergies regarding the chocolate making and decorating. Please send the slip back before Wednesday or contact the school secretary so that we have all the information we need to present to Coco Kitchen.

MAYA DAY
On Thursday, we will be  having a day where we consolidate our learning regarding our enquiry into the Maya civilisation. We will be 'trading' playing Pok-aTok and sampling a range of Mayan delicacies - yes, bitter, chilli-infused chocolatl will be on the menu! The trip allergy consent form will also apply to this day so don't worry about another letter!

Congratulations to Noah and Jack G for being our Mathematician of the Week and to Joel and Rosie G for being recognised as our Visible Learners for this half term. We really do have an amazing class!

That's all from me so have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday for our final week of school this half term.

Miss Randle, Mrs Clary and Miss Gilbert.

Another week is over in Landaviddy class. We have been enjoying exploring the animal kingdom this week, researching animals to create an information poster. In Science, we learnt about food chains and created some examples of our own. We then applied our understanding of food chains to  program sprites for a food chain within a habitat of our choosing on Scratch. I was blown away by all the children's efforts.

We have continued our addition and subtraction unit this week by Year 3 looking at adding and subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s, and Year 2 using their knowledge of number bonds to add and subtract, as well as recognising related facts.

In English, we have started writing up our recounts from our wonderful Porfell Wildlife Park class trip. We've looked at using conjunctions to join clauses and writing using fronted adverbials. So far, I have been very impressed with the writing that all the children have achieved. Next week, we will finish these off.

Congratulations to Lowen for being Landaviddy's Mathematician of the week and Lucy and Summer for being our Visible Learners of the half term!

We hope you have a fabulous weekend and look forward to seeing you next week, for our final week of fun before half term!

This week we have thrown ourselves into exploring autumn. The children all took home a special bag last week to collect some autumn treasures and this week have brought them back. We have enjoyed looking in them and seeing what the children have managed to collect including acorns, leaves and ferns, they then made beautiful autumn wreaths using the items they collected.
In outdoor learning on the field last week, the children made hedgehogs out of clay and this week enjoyed making a hedgehog house decorated with leaves where the hedgehogs could live.
We have enjoyed exploring an autumn themed tuft tray and explored what happens in autumn such as why the leaves fall off of the trees.
In maths, we have been recognising numbers in our environment.

Just a reminder that it is INSET next Friday (20th) and then half term.
Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday.

Talland's Class Blog 6.10.23

Talland have taken exploring to the next level this week - we had an amazing adventure in the Rainforest Biome at the Eden Project. We became three separate tribes, uncovered the rainforest and learnt how to survive. It was such an amazing day and the children had a brilliant experience.

This trip has had a huge impact on our enquiry question and it really does answer: 'Why are rainforest important?'

Well done to Nuala for being recognised as our pupil of the week. And well done to everyone in Talland class for working so hard and being so enthusiastic about our learning - We made some fantastic water coloured paintings of a rainforest today, inspired by the famous artist: Henri Rousseau - what a lovely Friday afternoon!

Signing off, Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Hodge.

Terrific Chaipelers

It has been a fantastic week in Chaipel - the learning taking place has been truly incredible. We have learnt about the importance of Fairtrade as part of our enquiry and Chaipel were outraged to learn that only approximately 8p in a £1 chocolate bar goes to the cocoa farmers!

In Maths, Y5s have been learning how to round to check calculations and put this into a real life scenario - food shopping! Mr B put them through their paces and they can confidently help their grown-ups when they next visit the shops!! We have begun to plan our Mayan narrative and will be ready to write up next week. They have some exciting ideas and I can't wait to read their stories.

Chaipel had a lovely music lesson with Mrs Butlin, using a range of instruments, and they have learnt how to discuss the weather in French with Mrs Hillman.

Congratulations to Ava, Joel and Max for being recognised in our Friday Celebration, along with the rest of our class for their support with lining up the Reception children and making sure they feel happy and safe in the playground.

POLITE REMINDER
If you have not yet brought back your slip for the trip to Cocoa Kitchen in St Ives on the 18th October, can you please do so on Monday so that we can finalise numbers etc.

Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

Miss Randle, Mrs Clary and Miss Gilbert.

What an AMAZING week we have had in Landaviddy!

We have continued exploring our enquiry question 'Who Rules the Animal Kingdom?' in Geography by using aerial photography to recognise how climate change has impacted the Arctic habitat. The children were amazed at how much of the ice had melted from 2000 to 2022.

On Thursday, we visited Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary. We had a fantastic time! We saw so many different animals; lemurs, owls, raccoon dogs, skunks...but our favourites by far were the meerkats! Especially, as we had just finished the story 'Meerkat Mail' by Emily Gravett, to inspire some wonderful postcard writing. In the afternoon, we were given the opportunity to feed the chickens that roamed around the park and hand fed the farm animals. Thank you to Mrs Hood and Miss Gilbert for joining us for the day!

We have began to arrange the events of the day into chronological order, and have defined nouns, verbs (adverbs Y3) and the language we use when writing in the past tense. Next week, we will be focussing on planning and writing a detailed recount of our trip!

Well done to Landaviddy's person of the week - Lowen. Congratulations to Isabelle for completing her 22 club, Amber for her 33 club and Harley and Jamie for their 66 club!

We hope you have a great weekend enjoying the sunshine!

Miss Gibbings, Mrs Phillips and Mr H

This week we have been answering our new enquiry question of "How do i know it is autumn?" and we have been exploring the story of "Goldilocks and the three bears"
The children have enjoyed exploring in the tuft tray with the oats and have used the bear and Goldilocks puppets to explore sizes and act out the story.
They have taken part in lots of different craft activities which has included making a bear face and we have started some autumn craft by painting leaves and making leaf prints on the paper. The children have also made finger print leaves on their trees.
We have enjoyed the outside area this week and on Tuesday went to the school garden where we had some porridge, read the "Goldilocks and the three bears" story and collected some sticks to make our clay hedgehogs.

We have had a busy week and look forward to continuing this next week.
Just a reminder that we have a Bags2school collection on Monday so if you have any good quality clothes, shoes or bags that you no longer want then please bag them up and pop them into us.

Have a great weekend

Penhallow have enjoyed another fabulous week of learning! Year 1 and Reception have again been 'wowing' us with their determination in their learning.

In Maths, we are learning about counting down from 10 to zero, investigating what one less looks like. In Reception, we are investigating beyond 1, 2, 3.

In English, the children have had a go at drawing their first story maps and we have been so impressed with their results!

We discussed class rules in PSHE and decided on a few of our own to encourage kindness in our wonderful classroom!

Well done to Hugh and Ida for being our 'People of the Week' this week. They show an amazing determination in all aspects of their learning, being kind, wonderful role models in their year groups.

I hope you enjoyed the 'Meet the Teacher' on Wednesday and found it useful. Please email admin@polperroprimary.co.uk if you have any questions that you may have thought of since seeing your child's wonderful learning space!

As mentioned, the Seesaw app is almost ready to share with you, this is a fantastic, interactive way of viewing your child's learning. I will send out the links next week and look forward to sharing their learning journey with you.

Children were sent home with their 'read with me' phonics book on Friday, focussing on the sounds we have learnt this week, please read together over the weekend so that the children can practice their new sounds, we will refresh these weekly and they will receive a new 'read with me'  book each week.

We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend!

Wow! What a brilliant week Landaviddy class has had!

In Computing, we have continued working hard understanding algorithms and the commands we can use to make a set of instructions repeat and make a sprite say 'Hello!'. In DT, we finally made our sock puppets! We were so impressed with the focus and determination all the children demonstrated when making their ideas come to life. What animals can you spot here? Can you find your puppet?

We have nearly come to the end of our Place Value unit in Maths. Year 2 have been focussing on comparing and ordering numbers and objects this week, along with counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Year 3 have also been comparing and ordering numbers to 1000 and applied their knowledge of the 5 times table when counting in 50s.

In English, we have all written up our postcards from the perspective of a Meerkat on holiday. Hopefully we can complete the finishing touches to these next week, so we can be ready to move on to our non-fiction focus on recounts for the last part of the half term.

Congratulations to Emma for being Landaviddy's Person of the Week! No one achieved any 99 club badges this week, however we had so many who were very close!

Reminder
Our class trip to Porfell Wildlife Park and Sanctuary is next week on Thursday 5th October. Please ensure you have returned your consent slip and paid your contribution on ParentPay, if you haven't done so already. Children can wear their own clothes with their red school jumper/cardigan, along with a waterproof coat and sensible footwear.

Of course, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We hope you have a restful weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week!

It was lovely to see so many of you at our Meet the Teacher sessions on Wednesday. We hope that you found it useful.

School Council Our School Council met for the first time this school year on Wednesday. They had a host of excellent ideas for trips, playtime and lunchtime activities and fundraisers for charity. School Council voted to restart our Golden Ticket Lunches as soon as possible. These lunches are held weekly and one child per class is given a golden ticket by the School Council because of their outstanding playtime and lunchtime behaviour. The ticket entitles them to sit at a special lunch table along with a member of staff.

We have a whole staff training session next Thursday therefore there will be no sports club and no after school club. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

FOPS fundraisers We have raised over £115 on our Ice Pop Fridays this term. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser and many thanks to those who have helped us. Funds raised will go towards school trips for each class this year. Now that the summer is over, every few weeks we are going to have ‘FOPS Fantastic Friday Fruits and treats’ sale. The first one will take place next Friday 6th October at 3:15 by the school reception. FOPS will be selling fruit and Freddo pots for £2 each.

Coats Please ensure your child has a coat in school every day as the weather is rather unpredictable at the moment.

Pre-loved uniform We keep a stock of very good condition pre-loved uniform in school (£1 donation per item towards school funds). Please bear this in mind if you need to replace any items for your child. There is a rail of items just inside the reception. Please ask at the office for a range of sizes.

Have a lovely weekend

Talland's Class Blog 28.9.23

Another fabulous week in Talland Class! We've been wood choppers and animals, we've been mathematicians, we've been sport stars, we've been explorers... parents have even been in!

Maths:

Year 4 have just finished their place value unit and will begin the addition and subtraction unit next week.

Year 5 have got their teeth into the addition and subtraction unit already and we seem familiar with the column method already - a strong start!

English:

Talland are beginning to use SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) skills that we have been practicing and applying these skills to our writing. We've also been working hard with our presentation and thinking about our handwriting skills.

PSHE:

Being Me in My World: we've been thinking about how it's important to include everybody and ensure everybody feels part of a team or a family. We've played games and developed skills during these games to help us work as a strong, united team. Lots of FUN and excitement has been had during these sessions: pass the whisper and pass the high five were particularly fun!

Up coming Events:

I'm very excited about our class trip to the EDEN PROJECT on Wednesday 4th October 2023 (THIS WEDNESDAY - YAY).
Just so you're aware, we are aiming to leave school at 9am and arrive back at school for 3pm. Children should wear their school uniform BUT do not need school shoes - comfortable shoes for lots of walking in a warm and humid biome would be best (I'll be wearing trainers).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

We hope you have a brilliant weekend!

Over and out form Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Hodge.

Chaipel

It's been another busy week in Chaipel. We have been busy completing our non-fictional texts, assessing our learning and thinking about our personal writing targets. In Maths, Y5s have been learning strategies for adding and subtracting larger numbers and Y6s have been investigating common multiples, factors and prime numbers. We have learnt about the Mayan writing system, creating our own hieroglyphs and decoding some numeral challenges as well as investigating Mayan religion, creating their own gods for their narrative! Jack G made a fabulous replica of a Mayan temple out of Lego for his homework!!

On Thursday, Mrs Evered and Mr H took a team of footballers to Duloe for a friendly tournament. Our guys were amazing and their exemplary conduct was praised by the adults who took them.

Thank you, parents and carers, for attending the Meet the Teacher afternoon. We have a lovely bunch of children in Chaipel and it was great to meet you parents as you are very much a part of our Chaipel team!

Next week, we will be immersing ourselves in the Mayan folktale THE CHOCOLATE TREE, creating new characters and planning our own adaptations of the Mayan tale. In Maths, Y6 will be learning about the rules of divisibility and then moving onto long multiplication whilst the Y5s will be rounding and using the inverse operation. In our Wider Curriculum, we will begin to look at Mayan trade and the importance of Fairtrade as well as how the Mayans ruled, comparing them to the Anglo-Saxon's rule over England at that same time.

SAD TIMES
We have had to say 'Good Bye' to Mrs Evered this week. She has been with us for some time now and it sad so see her go. Nevertheless, the children and staff wished her well in her new career and hope to see her again in the future!

HAPPY TIMES
We welcomed Miss Gilbert to Chaipel this week as a BEd student. She will be with us until December 15th and the children have warmly welcomed her into the class already.

That's all from us so have a fantastic weekend and see you on Monday!

Miss Randle, Mrs Clary and Miss Gilbert.

This week we have continued to discuss animals and pets and the children have talked about animals that they have at home as well as those that they would like to take home including crocodiles!!
The children have been busy creating paper plate leopards and tigers and have explored different animal prints. They even created their own print that we turned into a musical shaker.
They have been busy exploring and having a go at colour sequences and naming and sorting shapes to go on their shape snakes.
On Thursday they enjoyed making animal shaped sandwiches. The children all did a great job of trying to spread and construct their sandwiches to take home.

Have a good weekend

Penhallow 22.9.2023

It has been a fantastic week in Penhallow. The reception children are 'wowing' us with their amazing attitudes to learning in the classroom. We have been impressed with their amazing skills in phonics and their thirst for wanting to know more in their maths lessons. This week we have looked at measure, capacity and patterns.

In Year 1 the children have been working so hard to get into the routine of a busy, learning day. The children have told me that they love their new work books and they are filling them with amazing things! In maths we are learning all about place value, learning what numerals look like as words, some of them are tricky, as well as counting on from any number.

In English, we have written Wanted Posters for Alan, the alligator with big, scary, snappy, white teeth. Next week, we will learn if the children's predictions were correct!

I look forward to seeing you, if you can make it, at the 'Meet the Teacher' meeting on Wednesday afternoon, please come prepared with any questions you may have and I look forward to welcoming you into our wonderful classroom.

Well done to our 'Writers of the Week' this week. They were Casey and Esme, both have had a fantastic start to their school year and I am so proud of them, Well done!

I picked 2 'People of the Week' this week Kai and Brody, both showing fantastic, kind and caring qualities throughout their school week, well done! Keep it up Penhallow, these are fantastic qualities to have, remember my favourite Disney Princess, Cinderella, "Have Courage and Be Kind!"

I attach a copy of our Knowledge Web for this term which shows what we will be learning this half term. These will be available to view on the class blog at the start of each half term, if you have any questions, please ask.

I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend!

Talland's Blog: 22.9.23

It's been another fabulous week in Talland class complete with drama, sport, rainforests, art and a whole lot of fun!

Maths
We have continued our place value unit. Year 4's have been using numbers lines, comparing and ordering numbers up to 10,000 and the Year 5's have been rounding with numbers up to 1,000,000 - WOW!

English
We have been exploring the structure of dilemma stories and getting theatrical within our lessons - What's the dilemma in our first picture do you think? We've also been getting persuasive and exploring different features and methods to become highly persuasive - watch out for those Christmas present letters!

PE
PE has been, as always, FUN! Dodge ball has continued and fundamental skills have been brought into play. Children have been learning to use their core muscles by focusing on balancing activities, catching and throwing techniques and controlling their body movements.

Enquiry
Our enquiry question: Why are Rainforests important? has lead us down the path of Geography and Art this week. We have looked at the famous French artist, Henri Rousseau. If you get a chance, check out his art - it will all become clear as to why we are exploring his work.
Ask your child about the layers of the rainforest and which animals might live in which layer - that's where Geography took us this week. Talland created some fantastic Fact Files by using books, posters and the internet.

We've had a lovely week, we hope you have too AND we hope you have an even better weekend!

Signing off, Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Hodge.

We have had a fantastic week of learning in Landaviddy class.

On Monday, Mrs Phillips covered the Creation story with the class in RE and the children had a brilliant lesson in PE exploring and refining their fundamental skills.

As part of out enquiry this week, in Science we carried out an investigation around our school environment to find examples of 'Living', 'Dead' or have 'Never been alive'. All of the children were brilliant at applying their understanding of MRS GREN to help with their findings. In DT, we practised our sewing skills, ready for making our own animal sock puppets next week! All the children had to use their growth mindset by telling themselves "I can't do it YET" and all managed to achieve the running stitch and sewing on a button. I can't wait to see what your final puppets will look! Watch this space!

In Maths, we have continued our place value unit by focussing on counting on number lines to 100 in Year 2 and finding 1, 10 and 100 more or less in Year 3, before also moving on to number lines.

In English, we completed our desert setting descriptions using amazing vocabulary, and began planning and writing our postcards from the perspective of Sunny the Meerkat. Next week, we will edit and write our final postcard.

Our Writers of the Week are Emma (Y2) and Callum (Y3). I was so impressed with their dedication to their writing this week. Keep it up!
Congratulations to Amber and Ellie for being Landaviddy's People of the Week!
Massive well done to Nevaeh for completing her 11 club, Reuben and Lucy for their 22 club and Everly for her 44 club! I reckon we will have more children achieve badges next week!

Knowledge Web
Please find below Landaviddy Class' Knowledge Web for this half term. This is everything your child will be learning during our enquiry 'Who Rules the Animal Kingdom?'.

Reminder
Wednesday 27th September we are holding our annual 'Meet the Teacher' at 2:45pm. We would love to see you there!

We hope you have an amazing weekend.

Well, all I can say is that I have been 'WOWED' with the writing in Chaipel class this week. We have written our draft non-fictional text about the life of a Mayan family, edited our writng AND written up our final piece. Most opted for a double-page spread and their layout and creativity has surpassed my expectations. Here's a few examples - they are amazing.

We have been rounding in Maths and the Y6s are ready to move onto the four operations now with the Y5s a few more lessons away from that area.

In our enquiry, Chaipel have been learning about the links between the Mayans and the history of chocolate. We have compared the Mayan folktale with that of the Aztecs and understand the similaries and differences between the significance xocoatl had on their daily lives.

Congratulations to Ava and Jack C for being our Writers of the Week. I was blown away with the language you used to to inform us about Mayan life. Bayley and Joel were recognised for their determination and positive learning attitudes in our Celebration assembly on Friday as well as Leon for achieving his 99 Club.

Next week, we will be moving onto a fictional writing piece in English, learning about The Chocolate Tree - a Mayan folktale. We will adapt the characters and retell the tale putting our own 'spin' on it. In Maths, we will move onto addition and subtraction strategies and our enquiry into the Mayans will revolve around their geographical location and the importance of Fairtrade.

Sadly, we told the children today that Mrs Evered will be leaving us next week. We will be very sad to see her go, but wish her all the best for her next endeavour.

POLITE REMINDER
Meet the Teacher is on Wednesday afternoon at 2:45. It would be lovely to see you all and go over what life is like in Chaipel class!

That's all from us, so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

Miss Randle, Mrs Evered and Mrs Clary.

This week in nursery we started our enquiry question of "Can all animals live in our house?"
We have been busy exploring different types of animals and whether we can keep them as pets in our house of if they live elsewhere. In our book area we have been exploring and have enjoyed reading the story of "The tiger who came to tea" with some of the children suggesting which animals they would like to visit their houses.
In art and craft, the children have made paper plate birds and hand and arm print giraffes. They have used play dough to manipulate into different shapes.
We have enjoyed cooking this week and the children made funny face wraps using different fruit and vegetables. We have also enjoy learning about different musical sounds and sounds in our environment during phonics. The children explored the different sounds that they made through the tapping of drum sticks on a variety of surfaces.

We will continue to explore and learn about different animals next week.

Have a lovely weekend

Julie and Sarah
