Tregantle and Lantic classes have had the most incredible trip to Plymouth Theatre Royal to watch The Little Red Hen! They walked all the way from school to Saltash Train Station where they eagerly awaited their train to Plymouth. There was much excitement when the train arrived! Traveling over Brunel Bridge was wonderful - the children saw the road bridge and lots of boats below. Next was another walk from Plymouth Station to the Theatre Royal. The show was just fantastic - the children were so engrossed from start to finish. There was time for a picnic in the theatre before walking back to the train station to return home. All of our children behaved impeccably and were a joy to take out!

The weather is finally starting to improve and the children have been making the most of it this week with Class 1 looking at compass points in the playground and Year 3 and 4 enjoying a Wild Tribe morning. It has been a busy week and we have only got another one before a well-earned Easter break.
Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from the National Marine Aquarium and the Ocean Conservation Trust today. They learned all about the treats to the ocean, climate change and how to protect the planet. They did some great science experiments as well. The whole school were able to join in in the afternoon with another workshop. Thankyou to the NMA for their time in providing this great day.
Year 5 also had a busy afternoon on Wednesday with a visit to the Cornwall Life-Skills roadshow at Liskeard Fire Station. They took part in short activities including electrical safety, CPR, the RNLI and how to stay safe near railways. They got to meet other children from local schools and they had a fantastic time.
I would like to thanks Mrs Richardson-Calladine (one of our governors) for giving her time this week to talk to the school council about breaktimes and lunchtimes and how we can make them even better. Governors play a huge role in the school, providing support and challenge to myself and the pupils. I was very proud of the children for their sensible ideas, maturity and welcome that they gave her. If you think that becoming a governor and supporting the school in another way is something that you are interested in, please get in touch.
Finally, with the improving weather, I know that many of the children take advantage of the school field after school. We have been contacted by members of the community about loud and boisterous behaviour after school and ask that if children do go into the field they are mindful of our community and neighbours. They should also not be climbing the wall into the cow field as this can disturb the animals and cause unnecessary stress. We have spoken to the children in school but appreciate your support in this matter. Can we ask that pupils do not use the trim trail before or after school as insurance will not cover them. We welcome children scooting and cycling to school but can we also ask that these are walker across the playground to avoid accidents.

Although there is only one week to go until the end of term, it is going to be an action packed one. On Monday 31st March, we welcome all parents/carers to hear our children sing and perform with their instruments in the covered playground from 2pm. Immediately after this musical feast, there will an opportunity to feast on some homemade bakes with the PSA bake sale. Easter egg prizes will be given out to the top bakes before everything gets sold. Please bring some cash if you want to grab a tasty treat!
On Tuesday, the Songfest members of our choir will be rehearsing with other schools and then performing to an audience of family members in Launceston. This is always a great show that gives the children a real buzz of excitement and sense of achievement.
On Wednesday, both infant classes are visiting The Box Museum in Plymouth. This is always a very exciting trip for children of all ages - and for the adults too!
On Thursday, a team of six Year 3 pupils will be competing in a Bridge MAT alternative sports day. The children will take part in events against pupils from 14 other schools involving mini Segways, archery, fencing and football golf.
On Friday, we have a quiet day to end the term. Please remember, in line with Bridge MAT's policy for the last day of each term, we finish at 1.30pm.
After posting my last blog, I realised the photo of the First Lego League trophy failed to upload. Attempts to rectify this have also failed, so I now include some additional photos from the day, including a team one with the trophy.
Last Friday, many of our children competed in the last cross country race of the season at Landrake. Thank you to Abi Flashman for organising the team for each race this season and for the parents/carers who take their children to all the events - even on the wettest, windiest of wild winter days! The biggest thanks must go to the children for their efforts. Speaking to them each week, I know how determined they were to better their previous best finishing position going into each race.
Well done also to our Year 5 and 6 football team who finished their league fixtures with two more games this week. Whilst the team only managed one victory, their effort, attitude and togetherness was exceptional across all matches and we are very proud of them for that.
Thank you to Abi Flashman, who has finally dragged Harrowbarrow into the 21st century through the creation of two social media accounts. We are excited to let you know we now have a Facebook and Instagram page! Following Harrowbarrow School's Facebook and Instagram page is a great way to stay connected with the latest news, events, and updates from the school. These social media platforms provide a vibrant space where parents, children and the community can celebrate achievements, share important announcements and engage in the school's activities. From photos of school events to real-time updates about upcoming projects, the pages offer an easy way to stay informed and involved in the life of Harrowbarrow School. Please find us under the name Harrowbarrow Primary Academy.

In Maths, we’ve been learning all about place value, focusing on numbers up to 50. It’s been fun working with different ways to represent numbers and understanding the value of each digit. We’ve had a lot of hands-on practice with comparing and ordering numbers, which has helped us get a better grasp on this important concept.
We also went on an exciting trip to Lanhydrock, where we had an amazing time exploring the beautiful gardens. We took part in a nature hunt, which allowed us to discover various plants and animals while enjoying the fresh air. After that, we ventured into the house, where we learned about what life was like during the Victorian times. It was fascinating to see how people lived back then, and we even had the chance to dress up in Victorian-style clothing, which made the experience even more special.
In our Art lessons, we’ve been exploring colours and learning about how to mix them. It’s been so interesting to experiment with different combinations and see the different shades we can make.
In English, we’ve started a new unit all about poetry, specifically focusing on dragons! We’ve been reading different poems about these mythical creatures and even started writing our own. It’s exciting to use our imaginations and come up with creative ways to describe dragons in our poems.
In Geography, we’ve been learning about the Berbers, a fascinating group of people with a rich history and culture. We’ve discovered a lot about their traditions, way of life, and the places they live. It’s been an enriching lesson, and we’ve gained a deeper appreciation for different cultures.
Finally, we are really looking forward to our sharing afternoon tomorrow! We can't wait to showcase everything we’ve been working on and share our learning with others.

Another action packed week for Talland Class. The highlights this week were: a visit to a Cornwall based story caravan where the children heard traditional stories; a morning spent in a Space Dome where they learned about the Universe, the cycle of the moon and other amazing facts, for example, 62 miles (100 kilometers) above sea level is the altitude of the Kármán line, a conventionally used boundary between Earth's atmosphere and outer space.
Some of the children have also been honing in on their own self-development, especially using musical instruments. It's fantastic to watch the enthusiasm, concentration and self-confidence ooze from these children. Well done, Talland Class.
best wishes,
Mrs Swabey, Mr Parry and Mrs Walters.

It has been a busy week at nursery. We have been finishing all of our learning on farming, food and where our food comes from in preparation for lots of Easter craft and fun next week.
The children have been busy scooping and mixing and cooking up a storm in the mud kitchen. We have had everything from salads to casseroles and soups!!
On the tuft tray the children have been harvesting vegetables and couting how many carrots and sprouts they had collected and used lots of great language such as crunchy carrots.
At story time we have enjoyed stories such as "The great chicken mystery" and we have been singing "Old Mcdonald had a farm" encouraging the children to create the different animal sounds.
In phonics the children have enjoyed making up silly rhyming sounds which they did whilst rowing to the tune of "Row, Row your boat". They have been looking for initial sounds in the sand tray outside and have played different instruments.
In maths we have been exploring shape and position. The children have explored the maths table with interest talking and using words such as on top, above, below, beside, next to. They have been sorting and matching shapes and colour blocks.
We have one more week to go before the Easter holidays, just a reminder that nursery finishes at 1.30pm on Friday 4th April.
Have a great weekend
The Nursery Team

We have had a great week in Foundation / Year 1.
Our activities have been all about spring this week. We have decorated easter eggs in different ways such as with pastels, collaging and colouring. We have used our funky fingers to pinch pom poms and add paint to a cherry blossom tree and lots of other lovely activities. We have also talked about the signs that Spring is here and my favourite was that ‘daffodils are popping up everywhere!’ Foundation also did some outdoor learning where they collected daisies and added it to their ‘vase of flowers.’ They looked beautiful!
In English, Foundation have continued their learning on Jack and the Beanstalk. This week, they have been drawing their own picture from the story and used their phonics to label the picture. Year 1 have been writing their own Acrostic poems about space. We have been coming up with some brilliant adjectives to describe space and have included them in our poems.
In the Wider Curriculum this week, we have been learning about materials in Science. We discussed the best materials for a piece of furniture and then designed this in our books.
Just a polite reminder that Friday is our Easter Crafternoon. Please feel free to pop up from 2:15 and you are welcome to take your child home at 3pm. Please do not worry if you can’t make it, they will still be able to do the lovely activities.
Thank you!

Bishop David has recently been announced by Downing Street as our next Bishop of Truro. The diocese are now preparing for his official welcome and they wished for children and young people to play a special part in his welcome service. A display will be made at Truro Cathedral and schools were invited to submit art work which welcomes Bishop David and shows why our school is special. Two of our very talented artists used their collage skills to create a masterpiece to send for the display. It includes our school vision, values and our school parable 'The Parable of the Lost Sheep'.
The service takes place at Truro Cathedral on Saturday 17 May.

We are very excited that our fundraising has been successful and that this week the installation of our play equipment has begun. By the end of this week, our Key Stage One children will have their new play ship and then it will not be very long before everything else can be fitted.
At the end of April, we will have the remaining climbing frames fitted for both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. The children in our lovely nursery will also have some exciting new equipment to enjoy. What an amazing start to the summer term for the children at Looe Primary Academy.

Class 1 have been looking at Bible stories from
Holy Week and Easter. As part of their learning, they made hot cross buns which
they learnt was symbolic of the significant day in Christian faith when Jesus
was crucified.

Amazingly well done to all of the children who took part in the Landrake Run 2025 but especially our St Cleer super star runners!
You ran with enthusiasm and determination! Well done to you all. Nothing can quite prepare you for the energy and excitement of the East Cornwall cross country series but as the season comes to an end well done to all of our children who turned up to running club and who entered any of the races. It really is a great achievement and we are very proud of you all.

This week our pre-school room has had the delicious aroma of gingerbread baking.
The children have all shown the joy and excitement that baking seems to bring when we get the opportunity to do it. They have carefully rolled and cut out their gingerbread. Then once cooled, added their currant eyes and gumdrop buttons to their delicious baked gingerbread people to bring home.
The story of The Gingerbread Man has not only inspired our baking this week, but also lots of lovely imaginative role play and language opportunities in our Fairy tale Bakery.
The children have been serving up lots of delicious, sweet treats and taking orders from their friends.
Outside has seen us enjoying some water play, mark making with sand and plenty of gross motor skill development on the climbing frame. Some of our younger children are becoming much more confident moving around the equipment.
September session request letters have gone out to parents of children who will be at pre-school for the 2025/2026 year. Please ensure these are handed back in as soon as possible.
As we have had some absences due to sickness and diarrhoea, a reminder that our policy is for it to be 48hours after the last bout of illness before your child returns to pre-school. This is to minimise the spread to other children and the staff. Thank you.
We regularly support and show the children how to wash their hands thoroughly and why it is so important.
There are lots of seasonal colds going around, so please encourage the children to learn how to blow/wipe their noses and then wash their hands at home also.
We hope everyone has a lovely and healthy weekend,
The Pre-School Team.

We have continued our enquiry 'Can you always see things grow?', by making observations of our beans for this week and learning about the parts of flowering plants. We then planted our beans in pots of soil, with the hope that these will give our beans the nutrients they need to grow and stay healthy. In History, we became detectives, using photographic evidence to determine how technology has changed in the last 60 years. Next week, we will look at how changes in technology has influenced how we write. We discovered what a network is, as part of Computing, and identified the different components that make up our school network. In French, we have been learning Little Red Riding Hood, which has been so much fun!
Landaviddy have been working hard this week on their English writing. We have continued to write up our stories, ensuring we are punctuating speech accurately and using exciting adjectives. Next week, we will finish editing and write up our final neat copies.
In Maths, Year 2 have concluded their unit on Multiplication & Division and are now eager to begin exploring Length & Height. Year 3 have continued working hard on Fractions, exploring how to order and compare unit fractions, as well as using fractions to measure scales.
Congratulations to Oliver for being chosen as Landaviddy's Person of the Week and a big well done to Esme for achieving her 22 Club!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

The highlight of the children's learning this week has been the exciting expedition to Dartmoor Zoo. The visit included seeing the animals at feeding time, from otters to lions; hearing the lion's proud roar; watching the tiger confidently patrolling his environment; a nighttime visit around the zoo and participating in workshops and discussing how we can protect and improve the natural environment for all living things. The children's confidence oozed and the questions asked by the children were well thought through: for example, how could these animals be returned to their natural environment? Despite the long day of walking and viewing the animals, the children were a credit not only to Talland Class but to their parents/guardians and Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy School. The excitement, fresh air and the abundance of activities helped them to sleep soundly ready for a Friday morning stroll around the Zoo and team building games.
Best wishes, Mrs Swabey, Mr Parry and Mrs Walters.

Canute class have been cooking every week and Tregeagle class have had the offer of attending after school cooking club. To support the delivery of this, we applied for funding from Cornish Pasty Association and we are delighted to have received funding. Funds raised during Cornish Pasty Week 2025 will provide schools across Cornwall and Scilly with the resources they need to offer children regular cooking activities and buy equipment and ingredients to run cooking clubs or other fun food initiatives. This funding will allow us to continue offering cooking to all the children every week for the remainder of this school year.
This week we trialled a new way to award the Star of the week with the children voting for the person they felt had shown our values and kindness to others. It was lovely to read the positive comments the children listed as reasons for their choice; recognising the kind gestures and actions of their peers. This week they chose:
Betsy-Mae for being kind, brave and already making new friends in her first week atour school.
Irina for looking out for her peers, being helpful and showing kindness.
Some very apt choices in a week, where we learnt that the one of the contributing factors to happiness is social cohesion and belonging.
We have a full week coming up with lots of activities and events:
Monday: Canute trip to Nancarrow farm
Wednesday: Mother’s Day service at St Saviour’s at 2:30pm
Thursday: Tregeagle science and geography field trip Holywell Bay
Friday: Tregeagle concert at St Neot pm
Have a lovely weekend,
Jane Wills

Another week has flown by and so has the learning.
Most of us have completed our Anne Boleyn diary entries, using colloquial language and the subjunctive verb form. The diaries are amazing and I very much look forward to reading them.
MATHS
Y5s have begun to understand percentages, finding their fraction equivalences and their relationship with tenths and hundredths. They will progress to decimals next week. Y6s have been immersing themselves in algebraic formulas, function machines and expressions.
In DT, our sewing skills have progressed to sewing buttons, mastering the back stitch and using the stitch to create our initials. Next week, we will begin to design our coin purses. Our skills in rounders progressed to fielding techniques and we enjoyed another art session with Sean - drawing butterflies - and using shading to give the picture an 'antique-effect'.
Our greenhouse is all prepped ready for the Summer. We have been up there today getting the seeds ready for germinating. We have beans, chives, carrots, strawberries, peas, lettuce, cucumber just to name but a few! Thanks to FOPS, we will be ordering a fruit cage to help us grow raspberries and gooseberries in the next few weeks. Very exciting times!
Below, I have the KIRFS for this half term and the homework grid. Please feel free to work on anything over the Easter half term - I know that it is late attaching these.
Anyway, that's all from us so have a lovely weekend.
Miss Randle, Mrs Clary, Mrs Hodge and Miss Colton.
