Year 6 have loved the den building as part of their Camp Craft activity.
Dinner next, then Night Line.
Year 6 left earlier this morning and arrived safely and happily at the Ultimate Adventure Centre. They are now enjoying their lunch and looking forward to Camp Craft.
Watch this space for more news later.
It was great to see so many of you at sports day on Tuesday – thank you for coming. We were very proud of the way the children joined in, competed and supported each other and of the leaders who ran the morning so well.
Sports Day House Points
We added up the house points from the sports day races and awarded others to pupils for exceptional effort, enthusiasm and determination (well done to Jack G, Bayley, Leo, Casey, Hamish, Rosie G, Callum, Thomas, Kai and Dom). The final scores were Chestnut 49; Ash 77; Oak 92 and Willow 102. Congratulations Willow.
Football Success
After a busy sports day and swimming lessons in the afternoon, our football team traveled to Burraton School in Saltash where they played their best match of the season. They worked together as a team, attacking and defending as one. Player of the match was Jack C who was also Captain.
Final score Polperro 4 - Burraton 1.

Today we had a visit from the Squashbox Theatre Company who performed their hilarious and informative ‘The Sea Show’. The visit was kindly funded by the Polperro Arts Foundation.
Garden Update
Everything is growing really well in the greenhouse thanks to hard work by our volunteers Mr and Mrs Peters and Gardening Club children with Miss Randle and Mrs Taylor. Our tomatoes were served as part of our school lunch today. You are invited to look round the garden during our school fete (see below).

This has been a very busy and enjoyable week with rehearsals for the Polperro Festival.
Bridge School Games. Next week the children will all have the opportunity to participate in the Bridge School Games. This year there is a Parisian Olympic Theme to the 5 events that they will be trying their hand at. A Bridge Schools Olympic Torch has been relayed from school to school in the run up to the games and the children (and staff) have enjoyed creating a video of the torch being paraded round the school.
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in all week.
Polperro Festival Parade. Children and families are invited to attend the opening parade tomorrow to celebrate the first day of the festival. Families are invited to meet outside Polperro Village Hall at MIDDAY in preparation for a 12:30pm start. Please come dressed in colourful clothes/outfits – as bright and cheery as possible.

What an exciting week with some good weather, finally. All of our classes have had time in the pool.
The vegetables are coming on in the garden and greenhouse. A huge thank you to Mr and Mrs
Peters for their amazing help with the garden and with our gardening club. Also thank you to Dennis
Julian for his generous donation of plants. We are hoping to see the produce used in our school
lunches soon.
Return of Ice Pop Fridays
After half term we will be selling ice pops after school at the main gate every Friday (or Thursday if it
is an INSET day) until the end of term to raise extra funds for the school. Please send your child in
with £1 or bring £1 along when you pick them up if you would like to buy one.
Clubs
All clubs will start again straight after half term on as follows:
• Wednesday: Lunchtime Sewing Club continues for those already signed up. If your child is
signed up and does not wish to continue please let us know.
• Thursday: Lunchtime Choir practice for Year 1-Year 6 with Mrs Butlin
• Thursday: After School Gardening club with Mrs Taylor and Miss Randle Years R-6. This club
has been so popular this half term and perhaps too big for every child to have a role. We will
need to limit the numbers to 20 this half term, this will be on a first come first served basis
with priority given to those that have not already attended.
• Friday: After School Olympics Club with Mr Langley and Mrs Turnbull for Years 3-6. An

Well done to our wonderful year 6 pupils who have been excellent this week in their attitude towards their SATS. They had a well-deserved celebration on the beach after sitting their last paper. Thank you to the Smugglers Cafe for the warm welcome and ice-creams!

Polperro Festival Programme Cover Competition
Earlier this term, the children each designed a cover for this year’s Polperro Festival Programme. The
standard of design was fantastic which made choosing winners a difficult task. Congratulations to all
of our winners, who were presented with certificates by the Mayor and Mayoress of Polperro. All of the designs will be displayed at the festival on Big
Green during festival week. The overall winning design, by Henry, will appear on the programme. Well done
Henry!

I was lucky enough to go with Landaviddy Class on their trip to the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth on Thursday where as part of their current enquiry ‘Could you be an Explorer?’ they learned all about Tudor explorers and made their own model Tudor boats to sail across the pool there. Several members of the public commented on how polite and well behaved the children were. It was a pleasure to be with them.
Talland Class went to Morwellham Quay, visiting the mine, the Victorian cottages and learning about how life was in a school in Victorian times. This builds on their learning from last half term’s enquiry ‘How have our lives been changed by the Victorians?’ Photos from both trips are on this week’s class blogs.
The pool water has been tested and the pool is good to go from next Tuesday. Please send your child in with their swimming kit next week – thank you to those of you who have already done this - and let’s hope the good weather holds.
Normal Magic Please find attached a poster which explains how to access this free service if you have concerns for your child’s mental health.
Social Media Safeguarding Concerns
With children spending more and more time online it is important that parents and carers understand the risks associated with social media platforms. Please find attached to this blog, a poster which highlights social media safeguarding concerns.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Reading
We have been lucky enough to buy some new and exciting books for readers at all levels in school
and nursery. In addition to this, specialists from the Cornwall Library Service recently came in and
reviewed and restocked our school library. Your child will today come home with a letter about
reading in our school, the books they can choose and how you can help them at home. The letter is
also attached to this blog.
Sun Safety
With bank holidays coming up and hopefully some good weather, we have this week had an
assembly on staying sun safe. Here is a list of 5 top tips to help keep young people safe in the sun,
put together by Macmillan Cancer Support, which we shared with the children
https://www.soltansunready.com/for-schools/newsletter-sun-safety-top-tips
Please ensure your child comes into school after the bank holiday with a sun hat and sun cream (at
least factor 30.) If you have any spare sun hats which your child has outgrown, please send them in
so we have spares in school.
Beach Safety
Two lifeguards from the RNLI visited us this morning to hold an assembly about how to stay safe on
the beach. They enlisted the help of pupils to demonstrate how to get help if they get into trouble in
the sea. They also discussed where it is and isn’t safe to swim and what to do if you are caught in a
riptide.
Wedding Bells You may have heard from the children that Miss Gibbings is getting married this weekend. I am sure you will join me in wishing her and her husband to be all the best for the future. On her return to work next week Miss Gibbings will be known as Mrs Wilkie.
Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. We look forward to seeing the children back in school on Tuesday morning.
